. You will have to supply your account ID number. Your password will
be looked up and sent to the e-mail address entered when you created your HitBOX Tracker account.
Can I have more than one
HitBOX Tracker on a page in my site?
No. If you have more than one WebSideStory counter on a
page in your site, your account will be terminated if you do not remove one within 24
hours. One counter per page keeps the counting and ranking system accurate and reliable
(honest, too!).
If you need the image of a World 1000 button to use as a design feature in your site,
you can save the image as a graphical file and add it to your page. It will be inactive as
a counter. We ask that you have only one active WebSideStory HitBOX Tracker on your page. This
does not mean that you cannot use other non-WebSideStory trackers/counters on your page.
If you are using your ISP's counter or a counter from another third party counting
service, please feel free to keep them on your page. We simply do not want more than one
WebSideStory counter on your page.
What if I want to display more
copies of the WebSideStory button?
The WebSideStory button is returned each time your HitBOX Tracker
database is updated. If you would like to display more than one WebSideStory button on
your page, you can simply save the graphic from our servers by right-clicking on the
button and saving it to your hard drive and uploading it to your server. Then you simply
use an "img src" tag to point to the new downloaded button.
PLEASE DO NOT ADD MULTIPLE COPIES OF YOUR HITBOX HTML TO YOUR PAGE.
Can I have more than one page
monitored by a single HitBOX Tracker?
NO.
The WebSideStory HitBOX Tracker has been designed to monitor the traffic on ONE HTML PAGE.
Please don't alter the code to modify your numbers.
If we display a link on the World 1000 list saying that your HTML page is getting 1000
hits/day, the page that a visitor goes to when he clicks on the link must be the page
receiving those hits.
What is a "mirror"
page?
We consider a mirror the same page except using different
computer resources. You can use the same counter on two pages if they are exact copies of
each other and the only difference is that they are using different computers.
Does WebSideStory exchange
links?
Well, sort of, but we do it in a unique way. When you
create an account with us, we rank and list your site on the World 1000 list. In return,
you display our button on your page, which links surfers back to the World 1000 upon
clicking. Technically, this is an exchange of links.
If you are interested in exposing your site with banner advertisements, please contact
WebSideStory's advertising department.
Can I use the WebSideStory
HitBOX Tracker on my adult site?
We have separated adult sites from the World 1000. If you
have an adult site, please feel free to use an ADULT HITBOX . If
you have an adult site and you create an account for a NON-ADULT site, the account will be
instantly terminated without notice.
How accurate is the HitBOX Tracker?
The HitBOX Tracker is the quickest, most accurate third-party
counter available on the Internet. We have created it from the ground up, using a 100%
binary proprietary database and pure Java.
No matter how many hits you receive, your database will never exceed 900 bytes in
length. This means your hits get logged in real-time and your stats are retrieved just as
rapidly. It's real time, real fast.
We are a third-party visitor traffic tracking and analysis service. The HitBOX Tracker
technology resides on our server, not yours. This means the speed at which our World 1000
button image displays on your page and the accuracy of the counter is also based on the
infrastructure of the Internet. Your count may be affected if for some reason there are
routing anomalies on the Internet in general or if the connection between our server and
your server is poor for a period of time.
We have taken all measures to ensure that the WebSideStory HitBOX Tracker is as accurate,
reliable and fast as possible. We have hyper-tuned our servers. We have compressed our
database. And, we have multiple major bandwidth connections to the Internet.
Why does the WebSideStory
HitBOX Tracker use cookies?
The HitBOX Tracker must use cookies to determine your
"Unique" visitors and other important statistics. There is no option to turn off
the cookies. There IS an option within your browser so that you will stop receiving cookie
warnings. Click on the Help menu, then lookup up "cookies" to find information
on how to stop the cookie warning given by your browser.
How can I delete my account?
Accounts that have not received a single hit within a
14-day time period are automatically removed from our system. If you want to delete your
account just remove the HitBOX Tracker HTML code.
How does WebSideStory
categorize my page?
When you create an account with us, we give you the opportunity to
select the category that most closely relates to the content of your site.
We group certain topics together. For instance, we group all "Book" sites
under the "Entertainment" category.
Click here to see how sites
are grouped on the World 1000.
What does it mean if my page
is not categorized?
The World 1000 is updated every hour. If you have just
created an account and you view your stats before the World 1000 list is updated, then
your site is not categorized. Please check back within the next four (4) hours.
There are other reasons that sites are not categorized. For example, if your HitBOX Tracker has
not received at least one hit, your account will not be categorized and ranked on the
World 1000 list. After creating your HitBOX Tracker account with WebSideStory, you must include
the HTML you are provided with in your site's source code. Do this and then go to your
site several times to check that your hits are being logged. Remember to refresh your
browser.
If you have left any data blank or incorrect, your site will not be categorized and
ranked on the World 1000 list.
If you've tried everything and it's still not working, then Technical Support with your account number, your URL where the HitBOX Tracker appears, and a brief description of the problem.
How do I change my category?
If the content of your page has changed or you feel your
site is not ranked in the appropriate category, please view your HitBOX Tracker statistics and
click the "Configure" button on your HitBOX Tracker and select another category.
Can my site be categorized in
more than one category?
No. We currently have no option where your site can be
ranked under multiple categories.
I categorized my site under
one category and it is being listed under another. Why?
We do group categories together. Click here to view the groupings. You may select a category and find
that you are actually ranked under another category. Notice that there are 36 main World
1000 categories listed, however we allow you to choose from over 100 different
subcategories when you create your account. Also, WebSideStory wants to make sure that
your site is listed in the appropriate category. If we believe your page is more suited
for a different category, we will change your category for you.
How do I find my page on the
World 1000 list?
When you view your stats, your current category and ranking
will be displayed. You can go to our Check Your Stats page
to view your statistics.
What happens if I get a
"SERVOR ERROR?"
The first response method is to re-enter your account ID
number and password. If you've already tried this, then all we can ask for is your
patience.
We have made every effort to design the WebSideStory HitBOX Tracker to be as foolproof as
possible. There are rare occasions, though, when our servers may be down for a short
period of time. You may receive a server error during these times. We suggest returning to
view your stats within 5 to 10 minutes.
Also, we use an extensive file locking system to ensure none of your stats are
corrupted. It is possible that you may try to access your stats at the exact time when
your database is locked, thereby creating a server error. Try checking your stats after 30
seconds or a minute.
What is a "hit"?
A "hit" occurs each time someone views the page
that includes the WebSideStory-provided HTML. When someone views your page, the browser
parses the HTML and fetches the World 1000 button image from our server (this updates your
personal HitBOX Tracker database). If for any reason someone is using a non-graphical browser or
have their graphics turned off, the HitBOX Tracker will not count the hit. Understand that these
are very rare circumstances. So, when your statistics are displayed, the analysis is based
on the number of times the monitored page has actually been viewed. If you place the World
1000 button at the very bottom of your page and a viewer clicks to another link before the
World 1000 image is retrieved, then your HitBOX Tracker will not record a hit. Therefore, we
suggest that you display the World 1000 button in a prominent position near the top of
your page so that all of your hits are properly tracked.
How are my daily hits counted?
We designed the HitBOX Tracker so that you can configure it to your
needs, and your day. When you create your WebSideStory HitBOX Tracker account, you set your local
time zone as the baseline from which to record statistics. All stats reflect that time
zone. This allows you to analyze your site's traffic according to where you are physically
in relation to how your site is visited worldwide.
How do I change my time zone?
If you selected the wrong time zone or if your time zone
has changed, our technical support department must reset your counter and start your data
collection from zero. You can do this by Technical Support with your account number and the URL where your HitBOX Tracker appears. We can not change your time zone without
resetting your HitBOX Tracker.
How do I change the
information about my HitBOX Tracker?
You can change almost anything about your HitBOX Tracker account,
including the URL, name, etc. using the "Configure" button on your HitBOX Tracker. Click here to view your HitBOX Tracker.
What are "Unique"
hits?
Unique hits represent one browser application visiting your
HitBOX Tracker-monitored page once in a 24-hour period. If someone comes to your page three times,
the HitBOX Tracker will count three (3) hits (i.e., "Impressions") but only one (1)
Unique hit.
Can I begin with a count other
than zero?
No. Whenever you create an account with WebSideStory (i.e.,
when you configure a HitBOX Tracker), you have to start your count at zero.
How does WebSideStory
calculate the average hits/day?
[(# of unique hits) / (seconds transpired since HitBOX Tracker
creation)] * (seconds in 24 hours) = [Average Unique Hits/Day]
Your average Visitors/Day (displayed next to your ranking on the World 1000 list) is
calculated by dividing your total number of Unique visitors since the creation of your
account by the seconds that make up that time period and multiplying by 86,400 (i.e., the
total number of seconds in a day). Simply, if you created an account 3 days ago and
received 3,000 Unique hits over that time period, to find the average hits per day, you'd
divide 3,000 by 129,600 (which is the total number of seconds in 36 hours) then multiply
by 86,400 (which is the total number of seconds in a day). This method will give you the
most accurate averages. You'd show an average of 2,000 hits/day next to your ranking and
site listing on the World 1000.
What are "ignored"
hits?
The HitBOX Tracker will ignore multiple hits from the same browser
if they occur within 30 seconds of each other. So, if someone sits there and reloads your
pages 10 times in a row, we will count 1 hit and 9 Reloads.
What are
"forecasted" hits?
"Forecasted hits" is an average of your current
hits. Essentially, it is a mathematical guess of how many hits you will receive based on
your history. So, if it is exactly noon and you have received 2,000 hits, then it would
make sense that you will probably receive a total of 4,000 hits for the day.
What are "Reloads"?
The WebSideStory HitBOX Tracker tells you how many people have
quickly reloaded your page within 30 seconds of each other from the same browser. Reloads
are ignored or refreshed hits and tend to give you a reading of how quickly your site is
being served from your Internet Service Provider (ISP).
What does the "One
Hour" statistic tell me?
This field will tell you the number of people who have
viewed your site then have returned to view it again within one hour. It gives you a good
indication of how your site is used by the average visitor.
What does "Same Day"
mean?
The "Same Day" statistic measures how many
visitors come back to a monitored page after one hour of the initial visit, but within 24
hours of the first visit.
